A Chateau St Jean Winery Engagement in the Sonoma Morning
There is nothing quite like the magic of a photo session in Sonoma County wine country. B&B found the absolute perfect backdrop in the heart of Kenwood, California. Specifically, they chose a Chateau St. Jean Winery engagement session to celebrate their love story. Between the stunning 1920s architecture and the endless rows of vines, it is an absolute dream location for a Sonoma wedding photographer.
As a wine country photographer, I always love shooting at this historic estate. Therefore, I was incredibly excited to capture their morning session. Although the morning began with heavy clouds, the overcast weather actually worked entirely in our favor.

The Best Photo Locations at Chateau St. Jean Winery
One of the reasons I love photographing couples at this particular Kenwood venue is the incredible variety of backdrops all within walking distance.
Many couples worry about cloudy weather on their portrait day. Consequently, they miss out on the incredible benefits of an overcast sky. For instance, clouds act as a massive, natural softbox in the sky. This soft lighting creates an elegant and romantic aesthetic.

A Fairytale Aesthetic in Wine Country
Between the old-world stone walls and the dramatic, overcast sky, the entire morning felt like stepping into a modern European fairytale. The soft, diffused light from the clouds enhanced all the rich architectural details and added a dreamy, timeless romance to every frame. If you are a couple looking for that elegant, storybook vibe for your photos, the combination of a historic estate like Chateau St. Jean and soft, cloudy weather is absolute perfection.

The Historic 1920s Chateau
The old-world stone architecture and beautifully manicured grand lawn give off an effortless European villa vibe right in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. If you want a storybook look, a Chateau St Jean Winery engagement backdrop is absolute perfection.

Timeless Portraits in the Sunken Gardens
We headed over to the property’s iconic sunken gardens. The way the afternoon sun filters through the surrounding trees here creates the most romantic, soft light. It’s an absolute must-stop spot for any couple looking for timeless, elegant portraits.

Morning Light in the Sonoma Vineyards
Because a bright morning sun can often create harsh shadows, the beautifully soft, overcast sky acted as a massive natural softbox for us. This cloudy wine country weather gave us the most gorgeous, even lighting, allowing us to capture those rich, romantic tones in the grapevines that make the Sonoma Valley so incredibly breathtaking. It is a perfect reminder of why this region is so stunning for photos, no matter the weather.
